Samsung SCX 4500 Printer - A Good All-Round Device

Electronic equipment has gone through the most amazing revolution in the last couple of years, along with this revolution TV's PC's and Mobile phones have slimmed down into the most stylishly developed electronic imaginable. The only piece of equipment that doesn't seem to have fared so well is the Printer. They are still built out of bulky pieces of plastic that seem to have been thrown together as cheaply as possible. As least this was the case until the Samsung SCX 4500 printer and Samsung SCX 4500 Printer Toner came along.

Laser printers seem to have fared better in the design arena than inject printers however, and today inkjets hardly seem worth the price of replacing the cartridges. Fortunately for us Samsung are far more responsible in their design and manufacture of printers. And although they offer many reasonably priced products, they still cake care over the type of designs they produce.

The Samsung SCX 4500 multifunction printer is a case in point, and really fits the profile of the "coolness factor". It is a slimmed down, full feature, full functionality but powerful marvel of electronics design. It is a slim 13 x 15.5, x 6.5" with a stylish exterior. It is simple to operate and incredibly quiet. In fact you are barely able to hear it when it is printing.

The MFP features a control panel with touch sensitive controls, but be warned, the settings are pretty limited. It makes use of SmartThru software for scanning and some of the printer functions and installing this to Windows XP took us 5 minutes. Remember to make sure that you have a USB printer cable handy as the machine is not shipped with this. You could make use of your old printer cable if you have one. There is very little warm-up time needed and you are able to copy a printed page in around 10 seconds.

The paper cassette does not hold much paper and it is situated beneath the printer itself, but if it is compact you want, then its compact you get. The cost of the Samsung SCX 4500 MFP is about $300, and you have to expect a print quality which falls in line with the price tag.

Although the scanner function is relatively slow, it does produce a good quality image at an optical resolution of 600 x 2400 dpi. Samsung Printer Toner is simply removed and replaced also, and grey-scale printing is completely passable.

If you re looking for a good home use printer the Samsung SCX-4500 will pass the test. It does not come with a USB drive or built in Ethernet, which makes it not really suitable as a networked printer. But who really cares, if you want style in a printer, then you are going to have to live with a couple of trade-offs. Print speeds at 16 pages a minute is still behind the competition, but you can't have everything, can you?

Summary: The Samsung toner is very cool and the design overshadows many of the limitations in functionality. If you are looking for a printer that does not look like a printer, then you are onto a good thing with this machine. For maximum efficiency, you do have to make sure that you use SXC 4500 Toner plugs and this will ensure the best quality of print as well as keep your stylish new printer reliable.
