3 Popular Methods To Search Public Records

by Davion Wong

Many more people search public records today than there were a decade ago. Records like background searches, marital status, civil and criminal, property, phone directories, family history, birth and death, driving, business records and other kinds can be found if you wish to.

There are quite a few variants what you can do in order to get access to the information you need. However, all of them fall under three main categories:

1. Search public records in government agencies at the local and national level

Places like courts, places of worship, schools, public archives, libraries, trade associations and others are great to start with. The challenge here is that you may have to spend hours digging through the files. The search could also take you to other states as well as dozens of places in order to compile the information you need. Also, it can mean spending a fair bit of money to acquire these reports. While your efforts can pay off, it is extremely taxing on your time to search public records in such a manner. Money is another factor to consider.

2. Engage an Investigator

There are private investigation centers that offer such search services. You would be able to cut down the time needed as these professionals know where to start looking. But it is not cheap and needed in all cases. If you just want to know more about the person you date, this option is not ideal. The same goes for checking the background of your prospective employees.

3. Search public records online.

Thanks to technology, archival and retrieval of any public record can be done on the internet. Such information is not free definitely since it takes time to compile and update the databases. However, it is affordable to most people. For a low fee, either for a single search or unlimited searches, the service is available to you.
