Direct thermal label printer is heat sensitive. They turn black when heated by the print head. The advantage of this method is that no ribbon is necessary. Direct thermal printing is more sensitive to light, heat and abrasion, which reduces the life of the printed material. Thermal transfer printing uses a heated ribbon to produce durable, long lasting images on a wide variety of materials. Thermal label printers are mostly used for bar code printing because they produce accurate, high-quality images with excellent edge definition.
